Submit Questions for Joe Hill | Philip Fracassi Returns to This Is Horror Podcast | Revamping This Is Horror TikTok

Hello, friends.

A few hours ago we dropped a brand new episode of This Is Horror Podcast in which we welcomed Philip Fracassi back to the show for the first time in over eight years. And in the outro to that show I went on record to say 2026 will be the biggest year for This Is Horror Podcast yet. It is the year where I really take the podcast to the next level and put it as one of my number one creative priorities. I've been doing the This Is Horror Podcast for the past almost 13 years and for the most unholiest of years, year 13, we go big!

Not only does it mean that we will put out more episodes than ever but we are going to be much more active with our video content, both in terms of showcasing full interviews on the This Is Horror YouTube Channel and clips with actionable writing advice, life lessons, and interesting snippets on both our TikTok and Instagram. Now, those of you who know me, will be aware I'm not one to mess about. So, rather than wait until 2026, I've started making those changes with immediate effect. Check out the links for yourself and follow/subscribe if you think they'll bring value to your life.

Speaking of bringing value, as I prepare to go into 2026, I have a renewed focus. I think what sets This Is Horror Podcast apart and distinguishes us from our peers is my aim is and always has been to help writers become better writers. That's why I'm so concerned and often centre my questions around writing routines and creative philosophies. In addition to that, I don't just want to get to know and talk about the books but to understand the writer behind the writing. I believe the video clips we're now showcasing on social media will really help with that, and will provide a little bit of inspiration for those looking for creative pick me ups but not in a position to listen to or watch a full episode of the podcast.

Now, as I go into 2026 with this renewed focus, I'm opening up to clients for my 'full in-depth edit' editorial service. Here's what I offer.

Full In-Depth Edit
This is the full works. Not only will I tell you what is and isn’t working with your story and make recommendations as to how you can improve your story, but I’ll edit it line-by-line for grammar, typos, tense changes, logic gaps, and consistency.
Feedback will include plot, structure, story development, dialogue, characterisation, point of view, pacing, readability, and focus. I’ll also recommend markets.
£0.04 per word (£40 per 1,000 words) (Approx. $0.048 per word)

I'll reduce the rate to £0.03 per word for the first ten people who reply to this by the end of the year.

All right, so that's what I'm intending to do with This Is Horror Podcast in the future but let's dive into what's been going on these past couple of weeks.

Hello, friends. It's been a month since my last email when I linked to every single This Is Horror Podcast conversation with Josh Malerman and spoke about my history and connection with Josh. You'd be forgiven for thinking this newsletter is a monthly newsletter. Truth be told, I always intended it to be a weekly but this year it hasn't quite worked out this way. This time around, though, I have one hell of a good reason for the delay on putting a newsletter out … See, just over three weeks...

Hello, friends. One of the most recent guests on This Is Horror Podcast was our dear friend and prolific writer, Josh Malerman. He recently released his first nonfiction book Watching Evil Dead which is part an account of a transformative night in his life, part a reflection on Evil Dead (but you don't need to have watched the movie to appreciate the book), and part as close to bottled inspiration as you're likely to find in a book form. There's writing and creative advice but this is less a...

Hello, friends. It’s been just under a month since we last spoke, and in that time, I have finished the first draft of my collaborative novel, tentatively titled Inemuri with John Crinan. Folks, this one is an absolute whopper, weighing in at over 167,000 words. Given my last two books were under 80,000 words and the two before that considerably less, this is new and uncharted territory for me. I spoke to Josh Malerman last week about his excellent creative nonfiction book, WATCHING EVIL...
