Speaking of Daddy's Boy, I have been on a number of podcasts recently, so wanted to thank these wonderful shows and provide a link to each of them.

Jason's Weird Reads

First up, I had a wonderful conversation with Jason White on Jason's Weird Reads. This is the second time I've spoken with Jason and I always have a good time. He's so smart and insightful.

From Jason himself: "Michael David Wilson joins me to discuss his new book, Daddy's Boy (of which I highly recommend reading), but we delve into even deeper territory. We also discuss which genre his books fall into, depression and anxiety, impostor syndrome, and overcoming those obstacles. I had a great time talking with MDW."

The conversation is available as a video episode here on YouTube.

It is also available as a podcast wherever you get your pods.

The Scares That Shaped Us

Next up, I was on Matthew Jackson's The Scares That Shaped Us. Matthew is one of the strongest new voices in the horror podcasting space. It was an honour to be on his show and dissect FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, DADDY’S BOY, and much more.

From Matthew: "Michael David Wilson, founder of This Is Horror, stops by the show to talk about his new novel Daddy's Boy, and we take a deep dive into Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's horror Western, From Dusk Till Dawn!"

You can listen wherever you get your pods, including here.

You can also listen (audio only) on YouTube, though the audio is missing from 1 minute 10 until around 2 minutes 30 seconds (but it's part of the intro and not the interview itself).

Dog-Eared Nightmares

Finally, what an honour to chat with L.P. Hernandez on his brilliant podcast, Dog-Eared Nightmares. I already knew L.P. was a great conversationalist and writer but this chat took everything to the next level. I’m so happy Les took a chance on Daddy’s Boy and had a good time. Please listen to this great podcast!

From Les: "On this episode of Dog-eared Nightmares, Michael David Wilson of This is Horror joins me to discuss his dark, comedy-action novel, Daddy's Boy. WE talk about utilizing dialogue to move a story forward, dick jokes, and the cultural significance of Naked Attraction."

Listen wherever you get your pods, including Apple Podcasts here.

Well, that's about it for now. Please, please check out Daddy's Boy if you haven't already and I'd love to hear what you think via Goodreads.

Do check out those articles on This Is Horror below. We've dropped three new podcasts recently, conversations with Danger Slater, David Moody, and Jasper Bark—so lots for your listening pleasure.

We'll also be chatting with Jason Pargin on the podcast this weekend, so if you want to submit a question for Jason become a This Is Horror Podcast patron.

So with that said, have a great, great day, and I'll catch you in the next newsletter.

I often like to take stock of what I’m doing with my life and career to make sure I’m utilising my time effectively and achieving what I want with my life. You can do anything you want but you can’t do everything you want. This was something I must have said almost every week, circa 2016–2020, when talking about writing and ensuring you’re prioritising your time effectively. It’s something I stand by to this day and it governs a lot of my decisions when it comes to writing and life in general. Each day we have a finite amount of time and must use it wisely. That’s why I also advocate deciding on the most important task for the day and doing it...

The great Jack Ketchum spoke about ‘writing from the wound’. Something similar but distinct that may be helpful is ‘writing to heal the wound’. Writing as therapy and as catharsis. It’s something I certainly did with my last two books, House of Bad Memories and Daddy’s Boy, and it’s something I’ve done to some degree for a long time now, but only recently have I become aware of just how much I do it and of its potential benefits. There are various ways you can ‘write to heal the wound’ and I...
